About the ECYLL

Our Mission

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, the East Carolina Youth Lacrosse League (ECYLL) is a coalition of member youth lacrosse programs in Eastern North Carolina. Our mission is to develop and grow the sport of recreation-level lacrosse by providing a structured, safe, fun, fair, and competitive league for youth competition. We are dedicated to promoting knowledge of the rules and skills of lacrosse, fostering sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect among players, coaches, and officials. The ECYLL supports USA Lacrosse initiatives and programs while offering training opportunities for coaches and officials to serve as positive role models, emphasizing sportsmanship, teamwork, and character building. We strive to teach positive life lessons through the game, increase youth lacrosse participation in the Eastern Carolinas, and remain strictly a recreation-level entity, independent of all travel youth lacrosse programs.

Our Values

The ECYLL's mission directly reflects USA Lacrosse's values and goals:

  • By focusing on a "recreation-level" league, the ECYLL embodies the core value of fun and inclusivity, making the sport accessible to all youth.

  • The commitment to providing a "structured, safe, fun, fair, and competitive platform" mirrors USA Lacrosse's emphasis on safety, sportsmanship, and fair play.

  • Teaching "positive life lessons" aligns with USA Lacrosse's focus on using the sport as a vehicle for character development.

  • The separation from travel programs helps the ECYLL maintain a developmentally-appropriate environment, consistent with the principles of the Lacrosse Athlete Development Model (LADM).

  • By embracing USA Lacrosse initiatives, the ECYLL receives access to the national governing body's best practices, research, and educational resources, strengthening the quality of its own local program.
